High School FAQs

TRYOUTS

What are coaches evaluating at tryouts?

We evaluate technical ability (first touch, passing, ball control), decision-making, game understanding, competitiveness, and coachability.

How are teams formed?

Teams are formed based on grade, player level, positional balance, and where each player will be best challenged and supported. Our goal is to create environments where players can grow.

How many teams will there be?

We will field a minimum of five teams and a maximum of eight teams.

When will we hear back after tryouts?

Decisions will be communicated on Tuesday, April 28. Some players may be offered roster spots prior to April 28.

LEAGUE & COMPETITION

Which league do teams play in?

Teams compete in NewComp (previously NPL). NewComp is the top team-based competition in US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer. This new competition is the result of bringing together US Club Soccer’s National Premier Leagues and US Youth Soccer’s National League, beginning with the 2026-27 season. District qualifiers from this competition and the ECNL Regional League compete for championships.

Where and when are games played?

The schedule will be released in August, but you can plan for games being held at Olympic Park in Schaumburg during the week - Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday at 7 PM or 8:30 PM.

How much playing time will my daughter get?

Playing time is not guaranteed; it is earned through performance, effort, attendance, and consistency in practice. Our focus is on long-term development, which sometimes means challenging players in different ways.

Do you focus more on development or winning?

Both matter—but development comes first. We want players to improve, understand the game, and reach their potential. Winning is a byproduct of doing those things well.

PRACTICE LOGISTICS

What is the practice commitment like?
In the fall, the Max teams practice 4 days/week and all other teams practice 3 days/week. In the winter, all players practice 3 days/week. The expectation is that players attend every practice. Attendance and effort in training directly impact game minutes, starting roles, and team selection for the upcoming year and supplemental showcases.

Excused absences: school-related commitments, illness, family emergencies, and pre-communicated conflicts.

Unexcused absences: no communication, last-minute cancellation without reason, repeated non-essential conflicts

What time is practice?

Most practice sessions begin at 5:30 PM or later. Exact times are announced in August at the latest.

Where is practice held in the fall?

Exact practice days and locations will be announced in August at the latest, but will include ComEd Rec Center, The Sport House and possibly Chicago Hope Academy/Altgeld Park.

Do teams practice on weekends?

Yes. Since NewComp games are held during the week, we practice on the weekend.

What does winter practice look like?

Players participate sports performance practice at Bolt Fitness as well as technical sessions in February to prepare for high school tryouts.

Can athletes play more than one sport?

Yes. We just ask that there is open communication so that we understand when players will need to miss practice.

Do you offer summer practice?

Yes. Our optional Bridge program is held in the morning, 3 days/week at the Montrose Turf Field. The Bridge program is offered in three sessions, the cost per session is $325.

COLLEGE RECRUITING

How do you support college recruiting?

We take a hands-on, individualized approach to college recruiting so every player has the tools, guidance, and support they need throughout the process.

We provide structure and education around each stage—helping players understand timelines, expectations, and how to navigate communication with college coaches. This includes building player profiles, creating highlight videos, and developing clear outreach strategies.

Players receive support in identifying the right-fit schools based on their soccer level, academic goals, and personal preferences. We also guide them through writing emails, preparing for calls, and representing themselves confidently.

From an exposure standpoint, we place teams in showcases and competitive environments where players can be seen at the right time in their development. We also utilize recruiting platforms and maintain relationships with college programs to help create meaningful connections.

Our goal is to simplify the process, reduce the stress on families, and ensure each player is prepared, proactive, and positioned to find the best opportunity for them.
